Weekly ReCap 9/12

Posted September 12, 2015 by Elizabeth in Stacking the Shelves, Sunday Post/ 30 Comments

It’s the weekend, time to reflect on any bloggy activity and get excited about new books and features in the coming weeks. On Saturday, Tynga’s Reviews hosts Stacking the Shelves, a place to share the books that have arrived in the last week. The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimberly @  Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news about our lives, review the past week, and discuss what is coming up for the week on our blogs. Best of all, Sheila from Book Journey is back this week with It’s Monday, What are you reading?

The Fall Mini-Bloggiesta is September 17-20; that’s next week! If you’ve never participated before it is a great way to learn more about blogging and take time to improve your blog. There are challenges that teach you how to create images, use different tools such as Trello or Buffer, write more creative reviews, communicate with publishers, all sorts of things that are helpful to book bloggers, and most offer prizes! Follow Bloggiesta on Twitter or subscribe to know when to sign up and when is happening. I am hosting a mini-challenge about using images.

I signed up for Blog Ahead again. It is going to run the entire month of October and is open to all types of posts to anyone with a blog. With the mini-challenge in May, I really got a lot of posts scheduled into the summer.  The only pressure was any I put on myself; the event is more of a cheerleading team working together to get ahead in our posts. Go check it out!

I also signed up for the HoHoHo Read-a-Thon November 12-17  hosted by Kimberly the Caffeinated Book Reviewer and Jennifer @ The Book Shelfery. For this one, you MUST read holiday or winter-themed books. There will be easy  challenges with prizes, as well as a grand prize at the end, and it all wraps up well before Thanksgiving. This way you get in the holiday mood and don’t have to add one more thing to your holiday schedule.  If you can’t think of any holiday books off the top of your head, I put a list of suggestions in my post.

I am considering changing my twitter handle, currently ebogie, which has no meaning to anyone. eviloverlord is already taken, as are most others I could think of combining these words. The change won’t affect followers, but might help people better relate me to the blog.  I really didn’t want to have anything about books in the name because it may be limiting in the future, but there are very few options available.  I’d love your input in the poll below. What do you think about making a change in general?

What would be a good Twitter handle?

I won TWO books from Goodreads this week! I know some people say that it’s rare to win there, but I’ve won three this summer, plus these two.

Plus two from NetGalley.

  1. Wow you’ve done very well to win two books from Goodreads! I also got a new colouring book this week to review and need my guests to leave so that I can sit in peace and colour and I have a copy of The Good Neighbor on the good old TBR! Thanks for visiting my weekend post 🙂

  2. You won books from Goodreads?! Man, that is an enigma! I HAVE won, but like, maybe three times ever? It saddens me. But YAY for you!! 😀 I love the idea of the Blog Ahead and Bloggiesta stuff. I wish I had some time to do those, they sound like a ton of fun! I hope you get ahead!

As for Twitter. I am torn. On one hand, your name as is is probably fine- I mean, you have a Twitter link on your blog, so you’re probably fine. BUT, on the other hand, it IS nice to have a blog reference about who you’re talking to- I am guilty of not having one in my Twitter name too- so I voted for ebogieoverlord. It kind of combines them so that people who already follow you won’t be too thrown off, and new people will have a connection between you and your blog! Good luck, I am excited to find out your choice 🙂

  3. Oh voting for a new twitter handler. That’s a great idea. I like that you are trying to relate your handler more to the blog. You got a nice haul this last week and congrats on the wins. I have won two books from Goodreads this year. Have a great week & Happy Reading! ^_^

  4. THe Good Neighbor looks good..for some reason I like book covers with doors..call me crazy. I forgot about Blogeista and they always have helpful tips. Have a great week Elizabeth and thanks for the shout-outs.

  5. Looks like we are going to be doing all the things together 🙂 I am signed up for all those blogger events too 🙂 I hope you love Bloggiesta it is so much fun and gets me to do blog things that NEED to be done. Excited to see you around and on Twitter 🙂

  6. I am not sure yet if I’ll join Blog Ahead as October will be a busy month for me. I did participate last year and it was a big help.

As long as you link from twitter to your blog and in your blog to your twitter account I don’t think people have trouble connecting the two. I do think bookishoverlordwould be a good handle as well, although ebogie is shorter.

  7. I voted for your current Twitter handle, which is your name, right? Why change a good thing?! Congrats on the GR wins, too!! I also hear a people complain about not winning but I’ve won in the past, quite a few times. But I don’t enter b/c I want other people to win books. I enter once in a while, though.

Yeah, Girl on the Train – it’s nice when you DON’T have to review something 😉

  8. I like you’re twitter handle now. It’s kind of fun to say. lol. Congrats on the wins. I’ve won a few from NG, but haven’t entered any in a long time since I don’t really like reading physical copies. Have a great week and enjoy your books.

  9. I also like MsEvilOverlord, I vote for that one!

Congrats on your wins! GR liked you, it really really likes you. 😀 I’ve done pretty well winning on there too.

The Other Woman was good, I hope you like it.

    Have a good week!

  10. I like Braine’s suggestion of MsEvilOverlord for Twitter – keeps the Evil Overlord vibe going. Thanks for the reminder about HoHoHo; I need to sign up, though I have to get a lot of my Christmas books read before that week. I’m already signed up for the Blog Ahead Challenge and I’m not sure I have time for Bloggiesta (but maybe.) I haven’t seen Little Woman in Blue anywhere, but now I am curious – I love Little Women and I’m an Alcott fan generally. And you’ve got some wonderful new books in this week! I’m seeing more and more coloring books around. I look forward to seeing what you think of this one.

  11. Great suggestion for MsEvilOverlord. The thing is to keep it short so that if someone tags you it doesn’t take too much of their 140 characters!
I have The Good Neighbor by Amy Nathan will be interesting to see what it is like. Good on you for joining Blog Ahead. I think about it, but more blogging I do the less reading I do!

  12. I voted for bookishoverload…

I hadn’t realised you hadn’t real Girl on the Train – wonder if there’s been so much hype that it’s a bit of an anticlimax now though… Keen to hear your thoughts.

    Deb

    • I didn’t find it anticlimactic, but I don’t think I’ll be reviewing it. Since I don’t “have” to, and it’s difficult to do without spoilers.

  13. Happy Sunday! I joined the HoHo readathon it’s always fun. Changing Twitter handles is a tough call, I voted for BookishOverlord. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I like the cover of The Good Neighbor a lot, and it sounds fun.

  14. I like that you gave suggestions for holiday reading, nice of you 🙂
And yay on winning so many times from Goodreads. I won a book this summer and I think one earlier in the year, and that’s it for 2015 but I’m not complaining. I recently took up coloring with colored pencils, and my daughter and I find it relaxing when watching no-brainer TV shows.
Lemoncholy Life, Little Woman in Blue, and the Good Neighbor have me piqued. I read The Girl on the Train and The Other Woman, and liked them both despite some mixed reviews–they were good for me.

  15. I tried The Girl on the Train a little while ago and just couldn’t get into it. It sucks cause I’ve been hearing great things. Who knows, maybe I’ll give it another try in the future.

Thanks for stopping by my blog! I hope you have a great week 🙂

  16. I still haven’t read the girl on the train but I’m hearing good things about it. I hope you enjoy everything you got. I voted overlordofbooksfor twitter! Happy reading 🙂

  17. Congrats on your Goodreads wins! I know winning feels really good, I haven’t won in a while. I really like BookishOverlord for twitter. All your reads this week look awesome, can’t wait to read your reviews.

  18. Congratulations on your Goodreads win! I need to get back in the habit of entering the giveaways over there. I had no idea that The Little Woman in Blue was connected to Alcott. Adding that to my TBR list. I’m in line at the library for the audio of The Girl on the Train. I’m looking forward to seeing what you thought of it! Have a great week!

  19. I voted for Bookishoverlord for twitter. I think it sounds good and relates to the blog nicely. Awesome about winning on Goodreads. I still have never won there despite how many of those things I enter!! Can’t wait to see what you thought of The Girl on the Train – Have a great week!
