ripxR.eaders I.mbibing P.eril is a reading challenge/event begun by Carl V. Anderson of Stainless Steel Droppings ten years ago. This year he has asked Andi and Heather of The Estella Society to host while he enjoys being a participant. The event is about enjoying the creepy books of the Halloween season beginning September 1 and ending on Halloween. A variety of levels, as well as formats including short stories and movies/tv are included, so there’s something for everyone.

Mystery | Suspense | Thriller | Dark Fantasy | Gothic | Horror | Supernatural

Or anything sufficiently moody that shares a kinship with the above. That is what embodies the stories, written and visual, that are celebrated with the R.eaders I.mbibing P.eril event. They are still accepting sign ups if you are interested in joining. I am going for Peril the Second, reading two books that fit the criteria. I have a lot of ARCs to get to right now, so I don’t want to over-extend.

Artwork for the badges is from the extremely talented Abigail Larson. Visit her blog, where she shares her process and shop at Society6 and RedBubble to see the wonderful ways it can be marketed, iPhone cases, scarves, tote bags and more.

    • I’m not really a horror or ghost story reader, but right now I’m doing The Girl on the Train, which is kind of creepy and mysterious, and I think I’m going to review Knock on Wood, a cozy mystery set in a town obsessed with superstitions, which are fun at Halloween with black cats, broken mirrors, and all that jazz.
