Today I am linking up with Rose City Reader for Book Beginnings and Freda’s Voice for Page 56. Follow the links for the lists of participants to read what’s out there. It’s like a bunch of book teasers, so you’ll get a lot to add to the ever-growing TBR.

Knots and Crosses by Scotsman Ian Rankin is the first Inspector Rebus novel, where the city of Edinburgh is almost as important a character as John Rebus. The books have been made into a British TV series that has been featured on Masterpiece Mystery.

Book Beginning
The girl screamed once, only the once. Even that, however, was a minor slip on his part. [Pretty creepy, huh?]

People stared at his car now. He would park it in the streets of Kirkcaldy and stand a little distance away, watching people envy that car.  The younger men, full of bravado and expectancy, would peer inside, staring at leather and dials as though examining living things at zoo. [Who is “he”? John Rebus? or the creepy guy from page 1?]
What do you think about this teaser? If this were a genre you enjoyed, would it pull you in?

  1. I love Edinburgh. 🙂

I have read one book by this author and I am embarrassed to say I can’t remember the title. I know it was good, though.

    Thanks for your book beginning.

Have a great weekend. I can’t believe it is Friday already.
