Avoidance? Or Housekeeping?

gimp-guyI’ve read a lot of posts lately about reading slumps and blogging slumps. I think I may be in one, so thanks a lot, folks for spreading the virus. I have plenty of posts scheduled, and lots of time to get things reviewed, so nothing is weighing on me, but for some reason I’ve done little to no blog “work” in the past three days. I’ve done a little visiting & commenting and returned visits, but that’s it. Here’s the book blogging things I’ve been doing without actually blogging. I’m pretending it’s blog housekeeping, rather than avoidance activities.

Playing around with GIMP image manipulation software. KissinBlueKaren turned me on to this free software that is very similar to Photoshop. There are tons of tutorials online. I am using it to do the Book Title Acrostic tag that I saw from Lory at Emerald City Book Review. I can’t use PicMonkeyย because it doesn’t do a collage with nine boxes. I think I’m getting a little better with GIMP.lory

secret-sister-projectOrganizing the blogsย that I follow on Twitter into Lists.

Scheduling older blog posts to social media with Co-Schedule.

Stalking my Secret Sister on Twitter and her blog to see if she’s received the item (s) I sent.

Shopping around at Etsy, Threadless, BuyOlympia,ย Vermont Country Store, and other places for my OTSP Secret Sister and Christmas. (Really looking for myself, but I pretend it’s for others.) Did you know that Amazon has a Wish List button for your browser? You just click it when you are shopping somewhere else and the item gets added to your Amazon wishlist. I learned about this ย because my OTSP Secret Sister used it.

Do you think this is a real slump? Am I avoiding writing reviews, or just doing some housekeeping?

  1. Sometimes I just get bored of writing reviews. I think that is normal. As far as PicMonkey goes, you can make the college have as many boxes as you want if you x out all the boxes it starts with. You can then drag and drop your photos into whatever order you like. I use it all the time, so if that isn’t clear, feel fee to send me an e-mail. ๐Ÿ™‚ I love PicMonkey!

  2. Sounds less like a slump and more like housekeeping under the umbrella of procrastinating. : D But housekeeping is good. ๐Ÿ™‚ The reviews will come when you’re ready.

I should check out GIMP. I use PicMoneky’s free service but it’s too limiting.

  3. I realize that I have been playing around with my blogs this week, instead of doing as much reading….and yes, that’s housekeeping. Or being creative. Let’s give it a nice name so we can justify it, LOL.

I think whatever we do on the blogs is productive…and helps us “work” those creative juices.

I don’t do much on Twitter, except the tweets of my blog posts, but now I’m curious. Thanks for sharing!

  4. Housekeeping, definitely. It’s all the little bits and bobs that need to be done that you never get around to. Nods. Thanks for the heads about GIMP, it sounds fun!

  5. I don’t think it is an “official” slump- more of a procrastination phase. I think we all have those- where you just want to do something a little different, but still bookish for a bit. Happens to me a LOT. That is when I head to time suck sites like Pinterest, or troll Bloglovin so I can look at ALL the blogs. Fingers are crossed that you will be back to posting in no time ๐Ÿ˜€

Incidentally, now you’ve made me want to download Gimp, enable co-schedule, and basically do all the same things you are doing ๐Ÿ˜‰

  6. I think everyone needs breaks from blogging every once in awhile. I think you’ve been on such a roll with blogging that you’re less activeness now is just so different from before. It’ll all balance out, and you can’t force yourself to write when you don’t want to ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. Well they all sounds like either useful or fun activities so I wouldn’t worry about it too much! Sometimes we all get a little cheesed off with blogging and it’s good to mix it up with other blog related activities during this time. So avoid away ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hi Elizabeth,
I think it sounds like bloggety housekeeping ๐Ÿ™‚ just taking time to get stuff organised, trying new things, etc.
For me a slump is when you get a bit resentful at having to go into your blog to do… nearly everything! Doesn’t matter what it is. Eventually it passes and we enjoy it again. We all go through that sometimes. Is that how you’re feeling these past few days? Or is it because you feel like you’ve done no real blogging (scheduled posts aside). It’s a tough one!
I have to admit, I’ve not heard of GIMP before, but it sounds pretty cool. I hope you enjoy it ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. Ok, now I’m thinking I must be in a slump because you do far more with the blog than I do! I’m enjoying the books I’m reading but have been reading slower because life is just busier with other stuff right now. I wish I had the urge to get more creative with the photo editing. Maybe if the reading mojo leaves that will be something to do ๐Ÿ™‚ Have a good week, Elizabeth!

  10. I’ve been in a bit of a slump but (mostly) my reading and reviewing hasn’t suffered too much. The rest of my writing and blogging has however. I’m struggling to write any personal posts and not working on other writing. I think it’s cos I have this sense of obligation to publishers if I’ve requested books and I tend to be anal about doing my reviews close to the publication date.

However… my blog reading and commenting has suffered in the last few weeks and I feel bad about that.

  11. I’m interested to learn more about GIMP — I’m always looking for design resources! Incidentally, you can do nine boxes in a row with PicMonkey — just keep dragging images to a spot just beyond the last box, and it will add another one. (Hope that makes sense.) Can’t wait to see your acrostic!

  12. Hurray for using GIMP! I love that software. I was planning on during a tutorial on getting the plug-ins and using them since it took me a bit to understand how that worked.
I think you are just doing housekeeping. Don’t worry, when you want to write a review you will. We will all still be here reading whatever else you come up with.
